Three schools in Bristol are closed today as thousands of properties remain without a water supply following a leak in a water pipe last week.
Engineers at Bristol Water have worked over the weekend to restore the connection after around 2,600 properties lost water at around 9:15am on Friday.
A second leak was discovered in the BS4 and BS14 areas (Brislington, Stockwood, and Whitchurch) yesterday morning.
Three schools are closed today due to not having a water supply including the School of Christ the King Catholic Primary in Hartcliffe, the South Bristol Skills Academy and the Advanced Construction Skills Centre.
In a message sent out to attendees of the school, Bristol City College wrote: “Due to a lack of water supply after a large-scale water leak in the BS14 area, we have made the decision to temporarily close the South Bristol Skills Academy and the Advanced Construction Skills Centre today (26/01/26).
“We are liaising closely with Bristol Water who are working to restore supply as soon as possible.
“We hope to be open as usual at 08:30am tomorrow morning (27/01/2026). Please continue to refer to our website for updates. If you are on site, college colleagues will be on hand to support you to travel home safely.”
In an update issued by the company at 10:45am, the general manager has confirmed that they hope to see supplies returning within the next few hours.
Richard Stanbrook, Bristol Water’s general manager, said: “Following the repair to the second burst on our network we have been flushing our pipes to remove air and discolouration so that we can start to return supplies to customers.
“The flushing is being completed shortly and we hope to see supplies start returning within the next hour, although it could take a few hours until all customers have water back.
“We are very sorry for the disruption caused to customers and I would like to thank everyone for their continued patience and kindness.”
Bottled water is still being handed out to those who need it near the old Cineworld at Hengrove Way.
