Fr. Robert Reiser, SJ
January 26, 2026 — Fr. Arturo Sosa, SJ, Superior General of the Society of Jesus, has appointed Fr. Robert E. Reiser, SJ, as the next provincial of the USA East Province, effective July 31, 2026, when Fr. Joseph O’Keefe, SJ, concludes his tenure.
A graduate of Canisius High School, Fr. Reiser entered the New York Province of the Society of Jesus in 1986 following his graduation from Canisius University. His Jesuit formation included philosophy studies at Fordham University; regency at St. Peter’s Preparatory School in Jersey City, New Jersey; and theology studies in Weston, Massachusetts. He was ordained a priest in 1997.
Fr. Reiser earned a master’s degree in theology from Harvard Divinity School and has served the Society of Jesus in a wide range of leadership and apostolic roles. His assignments have included director of vocations for the New York and Maryland Provinces, president of St. Peter’s Prep, and president of McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester, New York.
Currently, Fr. Reiser serves as secretary for pre-secondary and secondary education for the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States, as well as executive director of the Jesuit Schools Network of North America (JSN), where he has worked closely with Jesuit and lay colleagues to strengthen Jesuit education across the continent.
His extensive experience, deep faith and generous commitment to the Society of Jesus will be a great gift to the USA East Province.
