Communal gardens usually closed to the public will open this June in one of Bristol’s most picturesque districts.

This will give visitors a unique chance to explore more than 20 communal gardens and squares behind the elegant Georgian terraces of Clifton and Hotwells.

The Clifton and Hotwells Open Gardens weekend will take place on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8, from 10:30am to 5pm.

The event, organised by Green Squares & Secret Gardens, invites garden lovers and curious residents alike to uncover the floral gems that are normally shielded from view.

Tickets, which grant access across both days, are available in advance for £8 through Eventbrite, or can be purchased on the day for £7 from 10:30am under the archway on Boyce’s Avenue in Clifton Village.

They are also available at selected participating gardens, all of which are listed on the organiser’s official website.

Described as ‘fascinating’, these communal gardens offer a rare glimpse into Bristol’s hidden horticultural heritage, showcasing a variety of plantings and landscaped grounds maintained by local residents and garden enthusiasts.

The online listing is: “Visitors will again have access to more than 20 communal gardens & squares which are mostly private, with a variety of refreshments and entertainment.

“There are a mixture of formal gardens, woodland and wild gardens.

“There will be talks, conducted tours, a tree trail, and singing with local choirs.”
