Good Morning Britain presenter Rob Rinder delivered a moving tribute on The One Show to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day today (Tuesday 27 January).
The broadcaster has previously delved into his ancestry on screen and spoken candidly about the devastating experiences endured by his relatives.
During tonight’s appearance on The One Show, joined by Mika, Take That and presenters Roman Kemp and Alex Jones, Rob reflected following a pre-recorded segment featuring a Holocaust survivor recounting her traumatic childhood memories from a concentration camp.
Rob, whose grandfather survived the concentration camps and who campaigns tirelessly to preserve his memory, said: “My family were murdered in Treblinka, it’s about the lessons for tonight.

“Whoever you are, whatever your background, wherever you’re from in our shared country, put a candle in your window safely, and what that light does is give us hope in a world that’s increasingly dark,” reports the Mirror.
“It does something very important, as the survivors disappear, we bridge that generation.
“Generations who touched the face of tyranny, who had that freedom, that sacred freedom taken away from us.
“In a world that feels increasingly denuded of hope and where we feel everyday that there is despair, and that we don’t necessarily have that courage to make change, when we put that candle in the window, we are reminded that all of us, whoever we can, can stand up to hate in all of its forms.

“Bridging the generations is what that’s about, those people that didn’t live and all of the talents we lost from our shared Earth should never be lost without consequence.
“What we can do is bring that gift back into the world, to remind everybody, whoever you are and whatever your background, that humankind is ultimately good.
“That’s what putting that light in the window tonight is about, not just commemorating the six million Jews and others who were murdered, but to do the thing where we no longer have survivors with us as we go forward into our shared Earth, remembering that we are people of goodness, courage and hope.”
Following his moving address, Alex responded: “So simple but so powerful.”

As the programme concluded, Rob seemed to struggle with his emotions whilst delivering a recitation of We Remember Them.
Audiences also expressed their appreciation, with one viewer commenting: “Love Rob Rinder,” whilst another remarked, “@RobbieRinder great words.”
During a previous instalment of BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are?, the barrister discovered his grandfather’s traumatic ordeal as a Holocaust survivor, before being relocated to Britain following the war.
This poignant exploration of his family’s endurance subsequently led Rob to present his documentary, My Family, the Holocaust and Me.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX. The One Show airs weeknights from 7pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
