Coronation Street spoilers follow.

He’s finally back: Brody Michaelis has returned to Coronation Street after over a month off-screen. And not only that, but the character, played by Ryan Mulvey, is back with a slightly new look.

It was Christmas Eve when fans of the ITV soap last saw Kit Green’s son, and he was celebrating his 17th birthday when he appeared in new scenes, which aired tonight (30 January).

He had been clean-shaven previously, but now he has the hints of a moustache and a bit of a haircut.

“Brody’s had a hair cut! Welcome back, lad,” wrote one fan on X, while another said: “Happy 17th Birthday Brody! Can’t wait to have Lou back on screen in a few weeks.”

Speaking out late last year, Mulvey explained why viewers have seen less of him recently, after some wondered if he’d left the soap altogether.

When he posted a TikTok alongside a caption that referred to himself as an “unemployed actor”, alarm bells rang – but he clarified that his character was just in the midst of a quiet patch.

He confirmed: “As all actors know, you go through really busy and really quiet periods. I’m just in a quiet period, in between storylines and whatnot.

“I’m not filming until, like, the New Year. But as soap actors, that’s kind of what you do. You just go from really busy to really quiet.”

Mulvey had previously starred in Hollyoaks as JJ Osborne, central to the Channel 4 soap’s groundbreaking sibling sexual abuse storyline. After Mulvey’s exit, JJ died off-screen whilst in prison.

Elsewhere in tonight’s instalment of Corrie, viewers saw a worrying development for Todd Grimshaw, as his abusive partner Theo Silverton spotted another opportunity to assert his control.

The scenes left Todd completely financially dependent on the villain, and upcoming episodes will see him struggle to manage the meagre allowance that Theo grants him.

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
