A “boutique” gym left vacant in Liverpool’s business district when its founding firm went bankrupt is reopening with a new business and occupant. Sevenstay, a premium aparthotel company based in Liverpool, is preparing to occupy the former Signature Living Fit Club on Old Hall Street, with renovations already underway.
The 60 Old Hall Street development was taken on by Signature Living in January 2016. When Signature Living took over the building a decade ago it said it would transform the “ugly duckling” into a residential space, serviced apartments, office space and also include a ground floor retail unit.
The company opened the fitness club in 2017, offering a range of classes including high-intensity training and boxing. However, administrators were called into Lawrence Kenwright’s firms Signature Living Residential Limited and Signature Victoria Mill Ltd on April 16, 2020.

Weeks later it was confirmed its fitness club would shut for good. The business was designed as a “boutique” gym according to Signature Living, having initially closed down as part of the coronavirus pandemic.
In an email sent to members at the time, the club said: “Three years ago, Signature Fit Club was created as a boutique gym, not because we thought we were going to be something special, but because we were small and different – in the end I think that was achieved.”

One half of the premises reopened late last year as The Big Bakes, an interactive baking experience and café. Liverpool-based aparthotel operator Sevenstay has confirmed to the ECHO it will open its third city centre location within the building’s remaining space.
Sevenstay owns 52 studio apartments in its Fleet Street complex near Concert Square, alongside a range of contemporary studio apartments on Bold Street. The company offers guests fully equipped kitchens and amenities for bookings of up to eight people.

Renovations are currently underway to transform the Old Hall Street site into Sevenstay’s third city centre venture.
Although an opening date and specifications are being kept under wraps for now, a spokesperson for the company told the ECHO: “We hope you will love the finished result as much as we do.”
