Transfer deadline day – The latest moves as window slams shut

Benjamin Arthur has spoken for the first time since sealing a loan switch to Celtic from Brentford.

The 20-year-old defender has penned a deal at Celtic Park until the end of the season to offer cover at centre-back. Martin O’Neill for reinforcements at the heart of his defence with Cameron Carter-Vickers out for the season.

Auston Trusty was also suspended for the weekend win against Falkirk, with the lack of depth leading to Stephen Welsh being recalled from his loan switch at Motherwell. Arthur is yet to feature in the Premier League for Keith Andrews’ team, made his Bees debut in a Carabao Cup win over Aston Villa earlier this season.

He becomes the second deadline day signing by the Hoops following SC Freiburg frontman Junior Adamu. Joel Mvuka is still expected to arrive on loan from Lorient.

Speaking to the club website, Arthur said: “I am really honoured and happy to be joining Celtic. It is one of the world’s biggest clubs, so it’s a really exciting move for me.

“I know we have a quality squad with guys who have won so much already, and I can’t wait to join them and hopefully play my part in bringing more success to the club and to our fans. We have a lot of challenges ahead and I am ready for them and ready to do all I can to help the club achieve all it can.”

Boss O’Neill said: “I’m really happy that we have brought Benjamin to the club, and I think he can be a very important addition to our squad during the remainder of the season.

“He is an excellent player, with real attributes, good height, strength and speed and I know he can only help and improve the squad across the number of games which we will face over the next few months.”
