Major renovation work is set to be carried out at a popular but dated service station in Pudsey.
A planning application submitted to Leeds City Council proposes partly demolishing the existing canopy and shop at The Wharrels service station in Lowtown.
Proposals include building new single storey side and rear extensions and alterations including new roof, windows, doors and ATM to existing petrol filling station shop and the creation of new external bin and storage area.
A design statement submitted with the application says: “The existing shop unit with adjoining car wash and workshop is architecturally unexceptional and very much of its’ time and in addition to being an on-going maintenance liability the building is no longer fit for purpose.”
It adds: “The proposed extension and alterations are relatively modest in terms of scale and footprint … and while the enlarged premises will no longer include the car wash or repair workshop it will consequently provide up-dated customer facilities.
“These include accessible retail space and associated storage, office, ATM and public disable friendly WC appropriate to context of a modern service station.”
The plans have been submitted by AY & Y Patel Ltd and can be read in full here.
Leeds City Council is aiming to decide the application by 26 March.
