An easyJet flight which departed from Edinburgh Airport declared a mid-air emergency over Spain on Tuesday afternoon. Flight EZY51DX left the capital at around 11.10am on Tuesday February 3.

After around two hours of cruising at 38,000ft, the aircraft squawked a 7700 code – which relates to a general emergency.

It was subsequently diverted to Porto airport where it landed at around 1.30pm.

Data on FlightRadar24 showed the flight being tracked by more than 7,000 people before making the emergency diversion.

The flight was due to arrive at the Spanish Canary Island destination at around 3.55pm. The exact nature of the emergency on board the Fuerteventura bound flight is unknown at this time.

EasyJet have been approached for comment.
