A WOMAN has tragically died after being struck by a car on a busy road.

The fatal incident happened around 11.10pm last night on the A90 on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

The collision involved a red Ford Fiesta and took place near the Kirkliston slip road at Cramond Bridge.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised.

But the 36-year-old woman could not be saved and medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

Cops are appealing to the public as enquiries remain ongoing.

Earlier today, an officer was seen searching the roadside with a sniffer dog.

Sergeant Michael Thomson, of Road Policing East, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the woman who died at this difficult time.

“I am appealing to anyone who was driving in the area at the time and witnessed the crash to come forward with information.

“I’d also ask that those with dash-cam footage review this to see if it has captured anything of significance.”

The northbound section of the A90, leading to the Queensferry Crossing, was shut overnight.

The closure led to lengthy tailbacks this morning but the busy route has since reopened.
