Having been banging at the door this year, ONYEISI can return to winning ways. Handicap debutants Wicksey (second choice) and Saxophonic need monitoring in the betting.

Class-droppers Mersea and Captain Vallo (second choice) command serious respect, while a win for any of Laurens Dream, East Tyrone, Penny Mountain or Asadjumeirah wouldn’t be a bolt from the blue either. TEARDROPS has flourished since blinkers went on and his latest second, when giving best only to another thriving sprinter, offered hope this mark was in range.

Spartan Fighter isn’t weighted to confirm the placings with Fircombe Hall, Yorkshire Glory or Flash The Dash on their run here on January 10 but he is thriving at present and he may have their measure again. If there is a dark one in the race it could be SPIRITED DANCER, whose Wolverhampton seventh last month was far more encouraging than the bare figures might indicate. She now has something to build on and looks worth chancing in a race where the majority are thoroughly exposed.

This looks the weakest of the three divisions and solid contenders are thin on the ground. Bibendum may prove the pick of those with recent handicap form but Wingstar and RAJSTAR are potential improvers now starting out in minor handicaps. The selection has been out the back in two runs over 1m for his new yard but the Curragh maiden in which he finished sixth on his 2yo debut was full of smart performers and he could prove a different proposition dropped in trip.

Hayynah sets a clear standard on her 2yo form but there were two odds-on reverses from her four starts and she is now fitted with cheekpieces for her return to action. The drop back in trip should help too but CHAMPONIE is a well-related newcomer and she may be worth chancing on debut. Maybe Soon and Bennyworth are open to improvement with their debut efforts behind them.

Most of these have something to recommend them but MISSION COMMAND (nap) may be the answer. He ran well over 6f at Kempton three weeks ago and this stiff 5f could be ideal. Castan, Monks Dream and Arnhem head the list of dangers.

This looks a shootout between the once-raced Pendella, who shaped well at Southwell and should relish 1m, and the three newcomers. Sovereign Bay is bred to be useful but SINTRA looks the part on paper and represents an in-form stable with a fine record at this track.

That Lucas Fella has bumped into a couple of rivals who are better than this grade on his last two starts and he is high on the list, while Wrist Art and Pop Favorite also command respect. ANNALEE LASS shaped well in a hot race of its type here last month though and she is marginally preferred.

Pallas Lord and Concert Boy look set to go well again but TASEVER has conditions to suit and his recent record in Class 6 handicaps at the track reads well. With no Aisling Oscar to contend with tonight he can resume winning ways.
