It’s a common practice for friends to bestow nicknames on one another, even if one is in line for the throne. Princess Charlotte, not typically called “Princess” by pals, enjoys a more casual nickname.

Prince William and Kate Middleton emphasize giving their nine year old daughter, Princess Charlotte, a normal upbringing in spite of her Royal position.

Her formal school identity is Charlotte Cambridge, yet her friends prefer calling her Lottie Wales, a playful hint at her parents’ noble titles—which were given after the Queen passed away.

Lottie, as she’s affectionately known, isn’t just called that by her schoolmates at Lambrook School; it seems the sweet nickname is widespread.

On a Royal tour in Northern Ireland, Instagram influencer Laura-Ann had a chat with Kate while with her toddler son George.

Upon meeting, Kate greeted him: “Hello, what’s your name? Hi George, what a cool name you’ve got, and you look very smart in your bowtie. It’s very nice to meet you.”

Thirty year old Laura-Ann, a part-time real estate agent from Belfast who encountered the Duchess at Windsor Park, captured this moment on her Instagram profile.

She shared that when discussing her older son, the Duchess casually referred to Charlotte: “So then she asked how old Bertie is, and I said he is four and she said, ‘Oh, he’s the same age as Lottie.’ She calls her Lottie!”

Charlotte’s parents also affectionately call her ‘Mignonette,’ a French term translating to “delicate” or “cute,” and ‘Warrior Princess’ due to her spirited personality, as reported by Katie Nicholl, Vanity Fair’s Royal correspondent.

During a 2018 shopping trip to The Range, a fellow shopper told the Daily Mail they heard Kate encouraging Charlotte with the words “get up, poppet.”

The Royal couple also have special nicknames for their other children. At Thomas’s School in Battersea, Prince George was simply known as George, like any other child.

However, William and Kate reportedly shortened Prince George to PG, leading to the nickname “Tips,” referencing the popular British tea brand. Their youngest, Prince Louis, earned the moniker Boss Baby from fans due to his assertive personality.
