An update has been issued after reports had been made on social media about an alleged abduction of a child in a town in Greater Manchester last week.
Concerns were raised after it was claimed that there was an attempted kidnapping of a child in the Broadheath area of Altrincham in Trafford.
However local Labour councillor Ulrich Savary said after speaking with Greater Manchester Police, it was confirmed that the allegations were unfounded and that no such report had been made.

He urged people ‘not to spread misinformation’ online and to contact police with any concerns or should they witness anything suspicious.
Issuing an update on social media, Coun Savary wrote: “I am aware of social media posts and local rumours about an alleged attempted child abduction on Lindsell Road last week.
“After speaking directly with Greater Manchester Police, I can confirm that no such incidents have been reported. The police also confirmed that similar claims have appeared in other parts of Altrincham and Broadheath recently, but none have been substantiated.
“While I encourage everyone to remain vigilant, I also urge residents not to spread misinformation. If you have genuine concerns or witness anything suspicious, please report it via the proper channels.”
Greater Manchester Police have been approached for a comment.
