The service was paused for more than a week to allow crews to concentrate on clearing bin bags and fly-tipping from city streets.

Meanwhile, a fraction of waste wagons were being deployed from three council depots citywide on Tuesday, with residents advised to leave their household waste bin (grey lid) out on their scheduled day.

The council said today it had a ‘contingency plan’ and hoped to have collections back on track by the end of this week.

The defiant workers said last week they were desperate to get back to work but could stay on strike ‘all summer’ if a deal was not struck that protected their pay.
