On the 80th anniversary of VE Day, two Birmingham takeaways are putting on a deal which is cheap as chips.
The two fish and chip shops in Birmingham will be selling cones of chips from only 5p to celebrate the historic day.
Officially known as Victory in Europe Day, VE Day celebrates German armed forces surrendering on May 8, 1945, a significant step towards the end of World War Two.

Exclusively for the day, Harleys Fish Bar in Great Barr and College Fish Bar in Kingstanding are putting on a ‘nostalgic’ menu.
Including a cone of chips from 5p, the VE Day menu includes spam fritters and potato scallops for 50p.
A traditional serving of cod and chips will cost £4.99, but there is one important rule on the day.
The VE Day specials will run from 12-2pm and 4-7pm at both locations, making for a cheap and cheerful lunch or dinner.
On social media, Harleys Fish Bar posted: “This 8th of May, we’re celebrating VE Day – marking the end of World War Two in Europe in 1945.
“A day of relief, joy, and national pride, when communities came together to celebrate peace… and of course, shared plenty of good old fish and chips.
“To honour this historic day, we’re serving up nostalgic offers – perfect for families, friends, and anyone who loves a proper British classic.
“Pop in and be part of the celebration. Fish, chips, and freedom – just how it should be.”
In March, College Fish Bar made the news as the father-and-son chip shop received UberEats one billionth food delivery order.
Speaking to BirminghamLive, owner Sukhvinder Dhillon said: “Our popularity comes down to two things: good quality and good food.
“You’ve got to have service with a smile and fresh food, you can’t go wrong with that.”
