An ‘absolutely vital’ music venue and bar has made the decision to increase prices over ‘rising costs’.

Located in Digbeth, Subside is a rock and alternative music bar minutes away from the city centre.

Subside is one of Birmingham’s popular late-night venues with last orders just before 6am on weekends.

On social media, Subside Bar posted: “A quick notice to all customers. Due to the rising costs from suppliers, energy companies, business rates and increases in taxes, NI and salaries we have had to increase our prices slightly on some but not all products.

“Most products have gone up by 20-30p only and our double up for £1 remains in place meaning most brand name spirits are just £4/£5 for single/double measure, so that’s just £5 for a double JD, Kraken, Spiced Gold, Jamesons, etc.

“Shots and cocktails remain the same and bombs have been tweaked slightly.

“Thanks for your support and we look forward to taking care of you at Subside into the future.”

The decision was received well from patrons who described the price change as ‘reasonable’ and ‘totally understandable’.

On Facebook, Jake Benson posted: “This is still comfortably the cheapest place to drink in city centre (and the best).

“Thanks for being reasonable, it’s totally understandable.

“Speaking as someone who works in the arts and music industry, this venue is absolutely vital.

“Thank you for doing what you do, and how you do it.”

Adam Fortey added: “Probably still the cheapest in town.”

And Steven Fellows commented: “I just want to say thank you for raising the costs reasonably.

“Most places went from £1.90 a pint to £4.80 a pint overnight.

“If you weren’t so far away for transport. I’d come and have at least a coke most nights.”
