generation, the Prime Minister gave a reading. While afterwards, the King and Queen will meet veterans in the congregation.

Before departure, Her Majesty will lead other Members of the Royal Family in laying flowers
at the Innocent Victims’ Memorial, outside the Abbey’s West Door.

Earlier this week, the royal family, including the Princess of Wales joined Second World War veterans to watch a military procession arrive at Buckingham Palace before enjoying a tea party. Kate Middleton was joined at the event by her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, who watched the parade before enjoying the Red Arrows flypast from the balcony of the palace.

VE Day sees the United Kingdom remembering the end of war in Europe and honouring those who fought.

The Ministry of Information announced by radio at 7.40pm on Monday 7th May that ‘in accordance with arrangements between the three great powers (Britain, America and Russia) a formal announcement of victory would be made by the Prime Minister Winston Churchill the following day’, hence the 8th became known as Victory in Europe Day.
