A city-wide trail connecting some of Edinburgh’s best independent food and drink venues along the capital’s tram line is being launched today.
Conceived by Bellfield Brewery – which is based in Abbeyhill – the trail is designed as a relaxed way to explore the city.
Seven stops will feature in the Bellfield Tram Trail 2026, stretching from the West End to Leith and culminating at Nobles by Bellfield at The Shore. Other confirmed venues include the Hebrides West End, Thistle Street Bar, Cafe Royal and the Boundary Bar.
The concept is simple:
- Have a Bellfield beer (and maybe some food) at each stop
- Collect a beer mat at each place visited along the way
- Bring the full set of beer mats to Nobles by Bellfield to receive a Tram Trail 2026 T-shirt
The Tram Trail is conceived by Bellfield Brewery, which is based in Abbeyhill.
There’s no prescribed order, no fixed route and no time pressure. Participants can complete the trail in a single day or dip in and out across the six-week period.
“The tram line runs past some fantastic places to eat and drink,” says Alistair Brown, director of Bellfield Brewery. “We realised nobody was really joining the dots. So we thought we would.
“This isn’t about racing around the city – it’s about rediscovering it. The Tram Trail is about celebrating the independent venues that make Edinburgh what it is, one stop at a time.”
By bringing together venues across different neighbourhoods, Bellfield hopes the Tram Trail will encourage both locals and visitors to step off at stops they may never have explored before – and support the independent businesses that give each area its character.
“This is about community,” Alistair adds. “Great local beer, good food, and giving people a reason to see more of the city.”
