East India Dock was one of the major successes of the jumps season but Daily Star Chief Tipster Jason Heavey thinks he can land one of flat racing’s biggest races on the final day of the Chester May FestivalEast India Dock is tipped to win the Chester Cup(Image: PA)
East India Dock looks a shipshape selection in Friday’s Ladbrokes Chester Cup on day three of the May Festival.
James Owen’s four-year-old almost topped a brilliant juvenile hurdling campaign with victory in the Triumph at Cheltenham but was chinned in the final strides.
Last season he was a progressive stayer on the Flat, rising 24lb in the weights, and the rough and tumble of this famous old handicap on the twisty, turning track looks ideal.
He has snared a decent berth in stall six and Harry Davies should be able to secure a good race position. Who’s Glen and Hot Fuss are among the main dangers.
Two Temping can seduce punters in the opening CAA Stellar Earl Grosvenor Handicap. The six-year-old goes well at the track, is well drawn and posted a fine effort at Newbury last month.

Penzance (3.40) is another strong fancy in the Precision Facades Handicap. A classy all-weather performer, he ran well on turf in the Thirsk Hunt Cup last Saturday when staying on well over a mile and the extra two furlongs on the Roodee will suit.
The 2023 Dante winner The Foxes remains in training as a five-year-old and gets the vote in the Group Two Huxley Stakes, while the other ITV4 race from Chester can go the way of Orionis, who showed good promise on her only start.
The first race at Ascot is also on ITV4 where James Fanshawe’s Philanthropoist (1.50) can do a a good turn for punters. The nap vote goes to Akkadian Thunder (3.25, nap) at the Berkshire track.
David O’Meara’s five-year-old looked desperately unlucky not to win on his seasonal bow at Leicester when he got no sort of run. With better luck in running, he should be ultra-competitive today.
Elsewhere on a bumper day of racing, look out for Bethpage (4.23, nb) at Market Rasen who was an unlucky loser at Cheltenham recently. She is a mare on the up and can make amends.
Punters should also tuck into The Good Biscuit (7.30, trb) at Ripon. Ruth Carr’s gelding has posted two fine efforts at the North Yorkshire track and has a good draw.
