An incident took place at an Edinburgh hospital on Thursday evening, with fire crews called to the scene. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at around 5.10pm, with three appliances and multiple special resources dispatched to Lauriston Place.
Images from the scene show an area taped off as fire crews attend while a white vehicle appears to have collided with railings and the building. By 6.45pm on April 9, the SFRS remained in attendance near the Chalmers Centre.
It is not currently known if any injuries were sustained. Local reports have suggested police and paramedics were also in attendance.
An SFRS spokesperson told us: “We received a call at 5.10pm on Thursday, 9 April, about a single-vehicle collision with a building near to Chalmers Street and Lauriston Place, Edinburgh.
“Operations Control mobilised four appliances and specialty resources to assist emergency partners at the scene.
“There were no reported casualties and crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
A local resident told us: “Incident at Chalmers Centre (opposite Edinburgh Art College) 6pm. Police, ambulance and fire brigade are in attendance.”
Fiona Wilson, Chief Officer of East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “Following an accident involving a car colliding with the Chalmers Centre yesterday evening, a small number of patients were evacuated from the affected area as a precaution.
“No one was hurt in the incident. Today’s clinics have been rescheduled or relocated to allow an assessment of the building and services will open as normal on Monday when patients will be seen in the part of the building not affected by the accident.
“If there is any disruption to clinics whilst repairs are undertaken patients will be contacted in advance.”
Police Scotland and The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been approached for comment.
