Before landlord Paul Frost took it over six years ago, you wouldn’t get much more than a pint of lager, a packet of crisps and maybe a pickled egg at The Langton.

Fast forward to 2025 and there’s a full food menu, several real ales, a fortnightly quiz night, dartboard in the bar and the old skittles alley is back open.

Even more surprising, perhaps, is the fact one room has been converted into a ‘Wellness Hub’ offering yoga and pilates classes and events.

Forthcoming sessions in the Wellness Hub include ‘yoga with live violin’ and an evening of clairvoyance – talk about a dramatic transformation for an old boozer.

And that’s not all – the pub now has a separate cafe open Monday to Friday (8am-3pm), a collaboration with Bristol coffee roasters Blind Owl serving coffee, tea, breakfast and brunch.

Tucked away close to the border of St Anne’s and Brislington, this handsome pub – formerly Langton Court – reopened in 2019 after a major refurbishment.

As well as the main bar with its large TV screen, there is a quieter lounge area and a split-level beer garden at the back.

There are old black and white photos of St Anne’s and Brislington on the walls as a reminder of how this now up-and-coming area used to look like.

There is a large choice of beers and ciders on tap, including two ales from the Wye Valley brewery (Butty Bach and HPA) and Butcombe Original.

Cider drinkers can choose between Cheddar Valley and Thatchers, with Foster’s, Amstel, Guinness, Heineken, Moretti, Brixton Coldharbour Lager, Neck Oil Session IPA, Gamma Ray and Tiny Rebel Clwb Tropica also on draught.

When it comes to food, there is an equally wide choice and a number of daily deals.

These include Munchy Mondays (two pub classics for £20), Beat the Clock Tuesday (hourly discounts from 5pm with 40% off food) and Thursday steak night (two steaks and fries with a bottle of wine for £40).

It being a mid-week evening when I visited, it was ‘Free Booze Wednesday’ with free Amstel, Thatchers Gold, medium house wine or draught soft drink with every burger ordered.

In order to claim a free pint, I went for the Langton beef patty, smoked streaky bacon, Monterey Jack cheese, pickles and burger sauce (£16) and very good it was too, well above average for a pub burger.

Food is served Monday to Saturday, 12-3pm and 5pm-9pm, plus Sunday lunchtime, when the roasts (complete with a live pianist) are so popular they need to be booked in advance.

During the week, there are lunchtime ‘thick cut bloomer’ sandwiches (£7.95-£8.95) and light bites (£7-£8) including buffalo wings with sour cream and chive dip.

Main courses range from £13.50 for wild mushroom risotto and rocket to £23.50 for the 8oz rump steak, mushroom, tomato and triple cooked chips.

From the ‘pub classics’ – priced from £14.50-£16 – there’s battered fish, triple cooked chips, crushed peas and tartare sauce and fried buttermilk chicken thigh burger with house slaw and BBQ sauce.

Popular with local families (kids are allowed in until 9pm), dog walkers stopping on the way back from nearby St Anne’s Wood or Nightingale Valley and anybody else who can find it, The Langton is a tucked away community pub that appeals to a wide demographic and offers multiple reasons to visit seven days a week.
