Former India player Ambati Rayudu has urged Virat Kohli to reconsider his decision of retiring from Test cricket. According to reports, the veteran has decided to bid adieu to the longest format of the game and informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his call. The right-handed will not play in the five-match Test series against England.

However, the top officials of the Indian Cricket Board has not accepted his decision and requested him to rethink as the national team needs Kohli in the important assignment against the Ben Stokes-led team.

Meanwhile, Rayudu took to social media to post a emotional message for the legendary batter.

“Virat Kohli please don’t retire.. The Indian team needs you more than ever. You have so much more in the tank. Test cricket will not be the same without you walking out to battle it out for Team India.. Please reconsider,” Ambati Rayudu wrote on X.

The 36-year-old was thinking about hanging up his boots from red-ball cricket after a mediocre series in Australia. He scored a century in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 but failed in the remaining four games, with Australian pacers exposing his weakness outside the off stump.

He represented India in 123 Tests, scoring 9230 runs at an average of 46.85. Kohli hit 30 hundreds and and 31 fifties since making his Test debut against the West Indies in 2011. If Virat makes a formal statement, it could be a big setback for the sub-continent team, considering the fact that Rohit Sharma recently announced his retirement from red-ball cricket.
