Police have launched an investigation after a body was discovered near Rinnagree Point in Portrush on the north coast.

The body was found in the hours of Friday morning, on the shoreline near the starting line of the North West 200 circuit on the Ballyreagh Road.

The body was found by a member of the public, who reported it to event staff.

Police and HM Coastguard were called to assist with the recovery.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police in Coleraine are investigating the discovery of a body in the Ballyreagh Road area of Portrush, following a report made shortly after 9.30am this morning, Friday 9th May.”
