Luxury gym studio Barry’s, which is based on the fifth floor of Liverpool’s FLANNELS department store, is launching a new ‘matchmaking’ service for gymgoers who are looking to find new friends to compete with in a fitness challenge.

The gym chain’s new All Stars challenge is running across all Barry’s gyms worldwide until May 3 with the aim of “sparking both competition and camaraderie within the fitness community”. The challenge encourages Barry’s clients to complete a set number of classes in 30 days – but, for the first time, participants will take on the challenge as part of a group.

Participants are invited to form a team of either two or four people with sign-ups open from now until April 21. Teams of two will set themselves a goal of completing 20 or 40 classes and teams of four will aim to complete either 40 or 80 classes.

Teams that complete the challenge will win prizes ranging from a Stanley cup to a Barry’s All Stars Bomber Jacket. Each finisher also receives double stars in the brand’s loyalty programme, The Academy, for classes taken during the challenge.

For Barry’s clients who don’t have a team of four, Barry’s has launched a new matchmaking service designed to help people find their team members. Clients are invited to fill out a form so the Barry’s team can find the best match for participants across its UK studios.

One of the things Barry’s gyms are best known for are the Fuel Bars inside each studio, which offer a menu of protein shakes for gymgoers to refuel after their classes.

As part of the challenge, protein brand HERMOSA has partnered with a self-development coach and “manifesting expert” called Roxie Nafousi, to create a limited edition ‘Confidence’ shake. The limited edition drink was also created to promote Ms Nafousi’s new book.

Inspired by the classic flavours of a cinnamon bun, the shake blends HERMOSA vanilla protein, coconut milk, creatine, cinnamon, almond butter and ice to create a shake that mimics the taste of the sweet treat.

A vegan option is also available, and clients at Barry’s Liverpool can pick up the limited edition shake until the end of the month, with prices starting from £7.

All Barry’s memberships and class packages qualify for the All Stars challenge.

Barry’s Bootcamp opened its Liverpool studio in 2022 and regularly runs challenges for clients, as well as offering limited edition items at the Fuel Bar.

At the start of the year, the gym ran a Find Your Strength challenge, which tasked gymgoers to take either 10 or 20 classes in 30 days, from Monday, January 13 until Tuesday, February 11.

Customers who completed the 10 class challenge received stars in the brand’s loyalty programme, plus a free long-sleeved tee. Those who completed 20 classes received even more stars and a hoodie.
