A popular Aigburth bakery has announced it will be making a change so it can “keep going”, despite its “success and constant queues”. Lunko, located on Little Parkfield Road just off Lark Lane, regularly has customers queuing down the street for its products.

The bakery, created by Adelina Blanaru and Marius Dogaru, has become a go-to for many after repeatedly going viral on social media. Previously, customers queued for over an hour to get their hands on the sweet and savoury treats.

However, in an announcement today, May 12, the bakery said it would be increasing its prices by “10-12%” in the wake of the cost-of-living crisis.

A statement posted to Lunko’s Instagram page said: “A little note from us. We’ve been putting this off for as long as we could, but it’s time to share that our prices will be going up slightly, around 10–12% on most of our products, including drinks and pastries.

“This isn’t something we take lightly. For the past two years, we’ve held our prices steady, even as the cost of just about everything around us has gone up: from butter to flour, energy to packaging.

“We’ve done our very best to absorb it, to stretch things, whilst maintaining the highest quality of our products. Because we know things are tough for everyone. But the reality is: it’s no longer sustainable.

“Despite the success and the constant queues, the truth is that making something from scratch with high quality ingredients and such care, often involves huge costs.

“To continue baking the way we do, small batch, from scratch, with really good ingredients, by a team that genuinely cares, we need to make this change.

“It reflects the reality of the market right now, and also the value of what we do. We’re proud of our little corner by the Lane, and proud to be part of your daily routines, your treat days, your celebrations.

“This isn’t just about price; it’s about being able to keep going, it’s about taking care of our staff, ensuring that we can continue creating the best pastries around and never compromise on the quality of any of our products. Because that will never be a choice for us.

“We’re so grateful for your wonderful support, your continued visits, and for every message you’ve sent saying we’ve made your day. That’s what keeps us going, and we hope you’ll understand why this change is happening now.

“Thank you for sticking with us. We’ll keep showing up with our very best.”

The announcement was met with support and understanding from its customers. Responding to the Instagram post, one user wrote: “I think your prices have been extremely reasonable, so I’m sure everyone will understand and be more than happy to pay that little bit extra for the level of quality.”

Another said: “Worth paying for quality in both product and service!” A third added: “It’s still worth it as an occasional treat for me. Premium ingredients don’t come free, simple as that. As a hobby baker I understand that premium ingredients plus a baker’s love = a premium product.”
