Image credit: Apollo Go)<\/p>\n<p>Baidu is reportedly planning to launch its Apollo Go robotaxi service in Europe, bringing the service to more overseas markets besides Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<p>The Beijing-based tech giant is in talks with PostAuto, a subsidiary of Swiss Post that provides public bus services, to launch its Apollo Go robotaxi service in Switzerland, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/business\/autos\/baidu-eyes-european-debut-for-driverless-taxi-5276eea6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wall Street Journal<\/a> said in a report today, citing people familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Baidu plans to set up a local company in Switzerland in the coming months and begin testing the technology by the end of this year, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>Baidu also plans to launch Apollo Go in Turkey, the people said.<\/p>\n<p>Baidu forayed into autonomous driving technology in 2013 and is one of the first Chinese companies to enter the field.<\/p>\n<p>So far, Apollo Go has been offering robotaxi services in more than 10 cities in the Chinese mainland.<\/p>\n<p>In November last year, the Hong Kong government issued <a href=\"https:\/\/cnevpost.com\/2024\/11\/30\/baidu-apollo-go-gets-license-test-robotaxis-hk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pilot licenses to Apollo Go<\/a>, allowing it to conduct trial runs of self-driving cars in designated areas.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the Baidu unit was allowed to expand its testing in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<p>In the Chinese mainland, robotaxi players also include smaller companies like WeRide (NASDAQ: WRD), Pony AI (NASDAQ: PONY), and Momenta, which are also expanding overseas.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2024, WeRide entered into a<a href=\"https:\/\/cnevpost.com\/2024\/09\/26\/weride-to-offer-robotaxis-on-uber\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> partnership with Uber<\/a> to advance the use of its robotaxis on the Uber platform.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2024, the companies began robotaxi operation services in Abu Dhabi.
