The two would write together at Paul&#8217;s childhood home on Forthlin Road in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/allerton\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Allerton<\/a> or at John&#8217;s Aunt Mimi&#8217;s house on Menlove Avenue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But as they got older and the band&#8217;s sound evolved, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/beautiful-beatles-song-made-paul-30893505\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"their creative process changed.Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">their creative process changed.<\/a> In the second half of the 1960s, John and Paul would often write independently before presenting their work to one another for final tweaks and changes. Regardless of how songs were written, every track they wrote while in the band was credited to Lennon-McCartney.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">There were also times when John and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/paul-mccartney\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"PaulLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul<\/a> did not consult each other on songs. John said he was hurt by it when Paul would do it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">One such example was the 1968 track &#8216;Why Don&#8217;t We Do It In The Road?&#8217;, which featured on &#8216;The White Album&#8217;. The sessions for that album were notoriously tempestuous, with <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/fantastic-beatles-song-made-ringo-30718716\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"the recording of the song &#039;Back in the USSR&#039; causing Ringo Starr to leave the bandLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">the recording of the song &#8216;Back in the USSR&#8217; causing Ringo Starr to leave the band<\/a> for a period.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The song was written by Paul after he saw two monkeys mating in the middle of the street in Rishikesh while The Beatles were on retreat in India. He was said to have been inspired by the simplicity of the process.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0_Beatles-In-Vegas.jpg\" alt=\"Paul McCartney on stage with The Beatles in Las Vegas in 1964\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Paul McCartney on stage with The Beatles in Las Vegas in 1964(Image: Michael Ochs Archives\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">During &#8216;The White Album&#8217; session, Paul and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/ringo-starr\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"RingoLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Ringo<\/a> worked to record the song together. John and George Harrison were busy with other songs, so the other two decided to record it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In the book &#8216;The Lyrics&#8217;, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/paul-mccartney\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"PaulLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul<\/a> explained: &#8220;We were mixing in Studio Two, which was really the dedicated Beatles studio at Abbey Road, and I was getting a bit fed up sitting around. Everyone had gone home, but we were still there at ten o\u2019clock, eleven o\u2019clock, midnight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;There was no one else around except for a security sergeant, maybe somebody on the door. So I slipped into Studio Three with Ringo, just him and me. I wanted to do a let-it-all-hang-out song based on little more than a mantra.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Paul and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/ringo-starr\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"RingoLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Ringo<\/a> recorded on October 9, 1968, returning the following day to add more vocals and a drum part. It happened while <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/george-harrison\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"GeorgeLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">George<\/a> and John were working on &#8216;Glass Onion&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It seems this decision hurt John. Asked about the track in a 1980 interview with Playboy, he said: &#8220;That&#8217;s <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/paul-mccartney\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"PaulLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul<\/a>. He even recorded it by himself in another room.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;That&#8217;s how it was getting in those days. We came in, and he&#8217;d made the whole record. Him drumming. Him playing the piano.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Him singing. But he couldn&#8217;t &#8211; he couldn&#8217;t &#8211; maybe he couldn&#8217;t make the break from <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/the-beatles\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"The BeatlesLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">The Beatles<\/a>. I don&#8217;t know what it was, you know.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;I enjoyed the track. Still, I can&#8217;t speak for <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/george-harrison\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"GeorgeLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">George<\/a>, but I was always hurt when Paul would knock something off without involving us. It was when I went off with Ringo and did &#8216;Why Don&#8217;t We Do It In The Road&#8217;. It wasn&#8217;t a deliberate thing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;John and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/george-harrison\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"GeorgeLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">George<\/a> were tied up finishing something and me and Ringo were free, just hanging around, so I said to Ringo, &#8216;Let&#8217;s go and do this.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/paul-mccartney\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"PaulLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul<\/a> added: &#8220;Anyway, he did the same with <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/paul-mccartney-urged-john-lennon-31282431\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"&#039;Revolution 9&#039;Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8216;Revolution 9&#8217;<\/a>. He went off and made that without me. No one ever says that. John is the nice guy and I&#8217;m the b*****d. It gets repeated all the time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/ringo-starr\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"RingoLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Ringo<\/a> didn&#8217;t have any problems with it. Pointing out that John and Paul worked on <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/banned-beatles-song-john-lennon-30788341\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"&#039;The Ballad of John and Yoko&#039;Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8216;The Ballad of John and Yoko&#8217;<\/a> without him and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/george-harrison\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"GeorgeLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">George<\/a>, the drummer said: &#8220;\u2018Why Don\u2019t We Do It In The Road?\u2019 was just Paul and me, and it went out as a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/the-beatles\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"BeatleLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Beatle<\/a> track too.
