{"id":1001580,"date":"2026-06-03T00:48:16","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T00:48:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1001580\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T00:48:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T00:48:16","slug":"russia-bans-entry-to-five-uk-nationals-including-washington-post-journalist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1001580\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia bans entry to five UK nationals including Washington Post journalist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong> Russia has banned five British nationals, including The Washington Post journalist Catherine Belton and The \u200bi Paper correspondent Richard Holmes, from entering \u200cthe country, the foreign ministry said on its website late on Tuesday. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Belton is an investigative correspondent focusing on \u200bRussia and previously reported about the country \u200bfor the Financial Times and Reuters among other \u2060media,<a href=\"https:\/\/news.az\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> News.az<\/a> reports, citing<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> Reuters<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Holmes, an award-winning investigative journalist and a \u200bPulitzer Prize finalist, is a security correspondent at \u200bBritain&#8217;s The i Paper.<\/p>\n<p>The foreign ministry said the entry ban was an answer to the &#8220;provocative anti-Russian rhetoric of British officials, \u200bthe spread of insinuations about Russia, and \u200bLondon&#8217;s practical steps to supply the Kyiv regime with weapons&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Other \u200cBritons \u2060named under the ban were Alexander Browder, a contributor for the Henry Jackson Society policy think tank; Alice Laugher, chief executive of humanitarian staffing firm \u200bCommitted to \u200bGood; and \u2060Richard Westbury, chairman of the Chelsea Group, parent company of Committed to \u200bGood.<\/p>\n<p>The UK is among countries which imposed \u200bsanctions \u2060on Russia, including travel bans, after Moscow&#8217;s annexation of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014.
