Thieves struck at a Bristol church stealing a van used by a foodbank for its vital work.<\/p>\n

The raiders struck in the early hours in Lockleaze and also stole items from the office.<\/p>\n

Stewart North, church leader and Chair of Trustees of North Bristol & South Glos Foodbank, said: “Ebenezer Church suffered a break-in. Items of significant value were stolen from both the church and foodbank offices based at the building and the foodbank van was taken from outside the building.<\/p>\n

“The incident happened between approximately 3.30 and 4am. The foodbank van was eventually recovered undamaged. But unfortunately, other items stolen mainly from the church offices and foodbank have still not been recovered.<\/p>\n

“We are deeply saddened by what has happened, but both the church and foodbank remain committed to serving our local communities and continuing to bring practical support, compassion, and hope.<\/p>\n

“We have also been overwhelmed by the incredible support from residents across our local communities who have been praying, sharing posts, and offering encouragement. Thank you so much for standing with us.<\/p>\n

“The impact on the church and foodbank offices has meant significant extra workloads and cost in repairing internal damage whilst still trying to operate our normal weekly activities. We operate as a community hub centre in Horfield<\/a> and Lockleaze.<\/p>\n

“We are grateful for volunteers who have come in alongside staff teams, all of which have been giving their time to help resolve this and continue to enable the church and foodbank to serve local communities in North Bristol.”<\/p>\n

Stewart added that many people in the local community and also further afield have been asking how they can help in the aftermath of the break-in. Anyone wishing to donate money can do so via this link for the foodbank<\/a>, and this link to give straight to Ebenezer Church itself<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Among the list of items needed urgently are tinned fruit, fruit juice or squash, cereal, desserts, sanitary pads, laundry detergent, toilet rolls and washing up liquid. The webpage updates its list regularly and also gives a list of items the foodbank cannot accept.<\/p>\n

The local community were quick to share their sadness at the news, with many offering to come in and volunteer – and one even offering to help secure the church for free.<\/p>\n

One said: “Very sorry to hear this. How upsetting for you all and shocking that anyone would steal from a Foodbank and Church. Thinking of you all.”<\/p>\n

While a second commented: “So very sorry.
