{"id":100407,"date":"2025-05-14T09:22:08","date_gmt":"2025-05-14T09:22:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/100407\/"},"modified":"2025-05-14T09:22:08","modified_gmt":"2025-05-14T09:22:08","slug":"thousands-of-london-civil-servants-to-leave-city-as-government-cuts-costs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/100407\/","title":{"rendered":"Thousands of London civil servants to leave city as government cuts costs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Thousands more civil servants are set to be moved out of London as the British government seeks to cut costs and \u201cradically reform the state\u201d.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Under plans announced on Wednesday, the government will cut the number of civil servants working in London by 12,000 and shift jobs to a series of new regional \u201ccampuses\u201d across the country.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The changes will also see 11 government office buildings in London close, including one of its largest Westminster sites, in a move expected to save \u00a394 million (US$125 million) a year by 2032.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Pat McFadden, chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, said the government was \u201ctaking more decision-making out of Whitehall and moving it closer to communities all across the UK\u201d.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Government departments will be expected to submit plans for relocating staff, including senior civil servants, as part of the spending review due to be completed on June 11.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The move will see two new major \u201ccampuses\u201d created, one in Manchester focused on digital innovation and AI and another in Aberdeen on energy.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"London\u2019s financial district.
