The sentencing judge said that Boy A had then \u2018decided to raise the stakes and start fighting dirty by introducing ambush tactics and knives\u2019, after he had been left \u2018humiliated\u2019 after it appeared he had lost a previous fight.<\/p>\n
A group of teenagers arranged to meet after school on Monday, September 15 last year in Whitworth Park. Mohanad had been pressured to agree to a \u2018fair, arranged fight against his better judgment so as not to lose face\u2019.<\/p>\n
Police had been called to the scene and attended at 4.10pm that day. They spoke with some of the children present, including Boy A, but then left the area.<\/p>\n
About 20 minutes later, as Mohanad and two of his friends began to leave, they were followed by a group of boys with the other side, and Boys A, B and C led the charge. Boy B threw Mohanad to the floor, Boy C kicked him \u2018as hard as he could\u2019 as he lay prone. Mohanad got back up and threw some punches in self-defence, before Boy A stabbed him with \u2018deliberate, lethal force\u2019.<\/p>\n
At a pre-inquest review hearing at Manchester Coroner\u2019s Court today (June 3), senior coroner Zak Golombeck said that following the conclusion of the criminal case, the inquest should be resumed to \u2018consider the actions of Greater Manchester Police on September 15, 2025\u2019.<\/p>\n
He said that matters to be examined during the inquest, which is expected to run for four days, include the actions of police constables who attended the scene in determining \u2018whether his death was avoidable\u2019.<\/p>\n
Mr Golombeck said that five police witnesses are scheduled to give evidence, including three PCs, an inspector and the senior investigating officer on the case. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is also an interested party in the proceedings, as are Mohanad\u2019s family, who were not present at today\u2019s hearing.<\/p>\n
