{"id":100840,"date":"2025-05-14T13:07:11","date_gmt":"2025-05-14T13:07:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/100840\/"},"modified":"2025-05-14T13:07:11","modified_gmt":"2025-05-14T13:07:11","slug":"snl-star-breaks-silence-over-sketch-mocking-stockport-actress-aimee-lou-wood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/100840\/","title":{"rendered":"SNL star breaks silence over sketch &#8216;mocking&#8217; Stockport actress Aimee Lou Wood"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The comedian wore a pair of prosthetic teeth in a parody of The White Lotus<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0_SNL.jpg\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>The sketch featured Jon Hamm and Scarlett Johansson(Image: NBC)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A Saturday Night Live star (SNL) star has broken her silence over a controversial sketch that fans\u2019 accused of \u2018mocking\u2019 <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/stockport\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Stockport<\/a> actress Aimee Lou Wood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Airing last month, the episode that featured<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/news\/tv\/white-lotus-star-aimee-lou-31418741\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> an impression<\/a> of the Sex Education star was presented by Mad Men\u2019s Jon Hamm and had Lizzo on music duties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">With the latest season of HBO\u2019s The White Lotus, which Aimee starred in, being one of the most watched shows of the year, SNL decided to make their own version of it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Titled the \u2018White Potus\u2019, the sketch followed US President<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/donald-trump\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> Donald Trump<\/a>, portrayed by James Austin, staying in a holiday resort and meeting some of his colleagues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Featuring a cameo from Scarlett Johansson, the parody saw SNL cast member Sarah Sherman wearing prosthetic teeth to mimic Aimee\u2019s character Chelsea.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Following the episode, Aimee took to her Instagram account to admit that she found the portrayal of her \u2018mean and unfunny\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Such a shame cuz I had such a great time watching it a couple weeks ago. Yes, take the p*** for sure \u2014 that&#8217;s what the show is about \u2014 but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way,\u201d <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/news\/tv\/white-lotus-aimee-lou-wood-31365192\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Aimee <\/a>said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0_Aimee-Lou-Wood.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The actress rose to fame on Netflix&#8217;s Sex Education(Image: HBO)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Speaking to Vanity Fair about the controversial sketch for the first time, Sarah, who sent a bouquet of flowers to the 31-year-old actress as an apology, said: &#8220;I was excited to play her because she\u2019s so iconic, her character is so iconic, and I f****** obviously never meant to hurt anyone\u2019s feelings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Never in a million years did I get into comedy to make anyone upset. I feel terrible that anyone would feel bad.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">When it comes to performing comedy, Sarah admitted that she and her colleagues have to think about if any of their material will be considered offensive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">She explained: \u201cThe show is in constant dialogue with culture as it\u2019s happening, and it happens really fast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cYou have to be vigilant, you know what I mean? There are a lot of things out of your control. You\u2019re playing a lot of different parts, you\u2019re doing a lot of different roles that you\u2019re not in control of.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Sarah added: \u201cA lot of the process of the show has been, to me \u2014 how am I answering this? [Pause] Staying vigilant but also being a part of the show \u2014 that is your job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Previously expressing her frustration at how much focus the gap in her teeth have received by the media, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/whats-on\/whats-on-news\/white-lotus-aimee-lou-wood-31304086\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Aimee told <\/a>GQ Hype said it makes her \u2018really happy that it\u2019s symbolising rebellion and freedom\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThere\u2019s a limit. The whole conversation is just about my teeth, and it makes me a bit sad because I&#8217;m not getting to talk about my work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThey think it\u2019s nice because they\u2019re not criticising. And, I have to go there\u2026 I don\u2019t know if it was a man would we be talking about it this much?
