The second North Scotland Garden Show is set to bring garden lovers, families, nature enthusiasts and environmentalists together again.<\/p>\n
Held at The Haughs Turriff Show ground on Friday, June 12 from 10am to 7pm and Saturday, June 13 from 10am to 4pm, this horticulture and forestry education and enlightenment event aims to showcase the versatility and importance of the industries in people\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n
Final preparations are being made for the North Scotland Garden Show.<\/p>\n
With the support of headline sponsor Simpsons<\/a> and trade stand spaces sold out, the event is shaping up to be another great success.<\/p>\n The two-day event showcases some of the best producers, artists, distillers and environmentalists from the fields of horticulture and forestry the north has to offer.<\/p>\n Visitors have booked tickets from across Scotland and beyond, with registrations coming from as far as Shetland, Orkney, the Outer Hebrides and Hexham, making this one of the region’s biggest new outdoor annual events.<\/p>\n With an expected attendance of thousands across both days, the event is set to progressively educate and promote awareness of the worldwide benefits of these industries.<\/p>\n Event organiser Julie-Ann Henderson said: \u201cHorticulture is so much more than gardening, and forestry is certainly more than cutting down trees.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m aiming to broaden the public\u2019s mind to the many vital uses of plants and trees, but especially focusing on introducing future generations to the hundreds of career opportunities available within these industries.<\/p>\n \u201cIn turn, as years go on, we should see more further education opportunities, more new business, greater employment opportunities with more appreciative pay scales and generally a greater appreciation for horticulture and forestry.\u201d<\/p>\n The Friday of the event is designed specifically for those looking for a healthy, satisfying career, with secondary schools invited to attend and take advantage of the nine educational and inspirational talks from industry leaders and specialists in their particular area of horticulture or forestry.<\/p>\n The topics this year include arboriculture, pharmaceutical development, farming and diversification into hemp growing, computer game content creation, plant experts, garden designers, bee keeping, home composting, the fascinating world of the earth worm and various environmental champions.<\/p>\n The presentations are timetabled in two Talk Tents with all ticket holders welcome to enjoy them as space allows.<\/p>\n On last year\u2019s feedback from schools, Julie-Ann added: \u201cAll schools who attended thought the offering was great and are looking forward to returning with different pupils this year.\u201d<\/p>\n Friday will feature a new industry question panel led by the Beechgrove Garden\u2019s<\/a> Carole Baxter.<\/p>\n Carole will be joined by Kirsty McLean of Garden Design Scotland, Jake Dickie of Landform, Jackie Bibby from Solstice Nursery, Anna Christie from NTS Fyvie Castle and Alison Easson, Aberdeenshire farmer and developer of Hemp It Up.<\/p>\n Questions are invited from the public by email to info@nsgardenshow.com or in person prior to and during the panel time.<\/p>\n Saturday is more family orientated with a whole day of inclusive, hands-on nature and forestry activities in Talk Tent One.<\/p>\n These activities are once again being delivered by Jackdaw Forest School with the help of Forestry School award-winner Lynne Cameron of Newcroft Childcare at no extra charge.<\/p>\n Visitors can also take part in a hands-on willow weaving workshop to make and take home their own bird feeder.<\/p>\n This workshop is delivered by Deeside Willow with pre-booking online at www.nsgardenshow.com <\/a>only.<\/p>\n The guest speakers will help people learn about the additional benefits and overcoming the challenges of growing food in the northern climate.<\/p>\n Visitors can also hear from an award-winning writer on apothecary gardening, enjoy a demonstration of terrarium growing and hear the journey of Aberdeenshire business Glenkindie Pantry and her knowledge of the pink elderflower tree.<\/p>\n The afternoon will round off with another industry question panel again led by Carole Baxter who will be joined by Elaine Rush of Epic Tree Care, Nick Chambers from UHI Moray college and Dawn McLaughlin, writer and allotmenteer.<\/p>\n More than 70 Scottish businesses, charities, social enterprises, further education establishments and garden specialists will create a bustling marketplace offering everything from plants and artisan garden equipment to handcrafted outdoor furniture and botanical-inspired artwork.<\/p>\n Visitors can wander through inspirational display gardens designed specifically for northern growing conditions, watch live machinery and equipment demonstrations, appreciate smaller scale designs in the pallet garden and container challenge, enjoy the exhibits of the SAFAS judged floral art competition and sample tasty local food and drink from some of north Scotland\u2019s finest producers.<\/p>\n Also appearing at the show will be Strulch with its innovative, environmentally positive mulch.<\/p>\n Grow Greener with a new innovative product locally made.<\/p>\n Seilich Botanics which is fresh from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show where it won an award.<\/p>\n Award winning author
