Jaxx Nelson and Tom Bodfish jumped at the opportunity to get their own piece of Gavin & Stacey and now they’re on a ‘mad hunt’ to get it ready for fans\"Couple<\/p>\n

A couple who met last year have bought Uncle Bryn’s house despite living more than a hundred miles away. Jaxx Nelson and Tom Bodfish, from Oxfordshire, thought there would “be absolutely no chance” of them actually getting the house when it went up for sale but are now “beyond excited” for the project they are embarking on.<\/p>\n

The pair hope to transform the property into the perfect Airbnb for Gavin & Stacey fans, restoring the terraced house into the home that was seen on TV screens in the hit BBC<\/a> sitcom. Jaxx, 41, said they are both currently on a “mad hunt” for furniture to try to recreate some of the famous sets and moments from Gavin & Stacey.<\/p>\n

This includes when Bryn transformed one of the bedrooms into a “state-of-the-art gym”, famously “surfed the world wide web” to give Gavin directions on how to get from Essex to Barry<\/a>, and also where he hosted Gavin’s friends ahead of a night out in Cardifd<\/p>\n

When Jaxx and Tom, 43, finally got the keys to the house at the end of May they celebrated with Bryn’s favourite tipple Cinzano at the home in the now-iconic Trinity Street.<\/p>\n

The pair, who met in February 2025 and have been together ever since, didn’t think twice before trying to snap up the property when it hit the headlines after it was put on the market for \u00a3210,000 in February this year.<\/p>\n

Jaxx said she showed it to Tom after seeing it online on a Tuesday and by the Friday they had put an offer down on the property.<\/p>\n

Tom said: “We’re both obviously big fans of the show and I think probably like every fan of the show saw that Bryn\u2019s house had come up for sale. It just seemed like such a fun potential project for us as fans of the show so we jumped on it really.<\/p>\n

“We drove down to Barry and put the offer in there and then.”<\/p>\n

They had both watched Gavin & Stacey before the relationship but it was something that they bonded over “very early on” when they watched it back together. “I saw the advert on Facebook after we’d watched it at Christmas and it was this really weird sort of serendipitous moment of: ‘Well let’s give it a go and see what happens’,” Jaxx said.<\/p>\n

She admitted they didn’t think there was “a hope in hell” that Bryn’s home would eventually be theirs. “We thought the interest would be too high so that’s why we did it very, very quickly. We got in touch with the agent, went straight down to Barry, and put an offer in there and then because we were very keen to do it.”<\/p>\n

After finally picking up the keys the couple are working as fast as they can to get it ready for Gavin & Stacey fans who will be able to stay in the slice of British comedy history as an Airbnb.<\/p>\n

Tom said: “It\u2019s finally ours and we’re hoping that it will become an Airbnb and very much a Gavin & Stacey experience for fans. We’re going to try our best to keep the rooms that were actually in the show exactly like they were \u2013 so famously his bedroom that was converted to the gym and the sitting room that he used as the bachelor pad for all the lads when they came over from Essex.”<\/p>\n

“It’s a really fun project to get involved in and now we’re just continually watching the show to see if we’ve missed anything or if there’s anything else we can add.”<\/p>\n

As well as the obvious references to the property being Bryn’s home the couple want to incorporate “hidden Easter eggs” that only super-fans of the show will be able to spot. They’ve also given the Airbnb a very fitting name \u2013 Gone Fishin’ \u2013 referencing Bryn’s infamous fishing trip, which fans never got to find out the truth behind.<\/p>\n

They also want to encourage people to support small local businesses where possible and there are already plans to partner with a local takeaway so guests at Gone Fishin’ can order Smithy’s notorious Indian takeaway<\/a> with ease.<\/p>\n

In typical Barry fashion when Jaxx and Tom went to pick up the keys they bumped into local celebrity Knock off Nessa with a tour group on Dave\u2019s Coaches and invited all the Gavin & Stacey fans inside to celebrate.<\/p>\n

The couple shared their plans for the property after picking up the keys and said the reaction has been incredible. Jaxx, who works for an NGO supporting female-led businesses and is the co-owner of a B&B in Barbados, said: “It’s blown up in a way that I never thought it would.<\/p>\n

“We created the pages so that we’d have the accounts ready but you could not have told me we’d have almost 100,000 views across our posts.”<\/p>\n

Tom, who is a sales director and guitarist in a ska band, said: “We’ve had some wonderful comments from massive fans of the show saying they’re really excited about it too. It’s been brilliant.”<\/p>\n

While the hunt to find the perfect furniture continues the couple are also looking to get in touch with people who worked on the series in the hope they might be able to source some props for the home. They’re hoping to get it ready for fans to stay within the next few months.<\/p>\n

“We’ve got this ever-growing list of things we definitely want to incorporate.
