{"id":1011914,"date":"2026-06-07T21:29:49","date_gmt":"2026-06-07T21:29:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1011914\/"},"modified":"2026-06-07T21:29:49","modified_gmt":"2026-06-07T21:29:49","slug":"how-i-saved-over-100000-on-a-35000-salary-by-the-time-i-was-22","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1011914\/","title":{"rendered":"How I saved over \u00a3100,000 on a \u00a335,000 salary by the time I was 22"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" width=\"646\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/how-i-saved-100-1544509-7458.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28645133\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"sync\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tGabriella first started work when she was just 15 (Picture: Gabriella Goddard\/SWNS)<\/p>\n<p>A 22-year-old management consultant has revealed how she\u2019s managed to amass over \u00a3100,000 in <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/savings\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">savings<\/a> \u2014 despite only earning a salary of \u00a335,000 from her main job. <\/p>\n<p>Gabriella Goddard, from Bath in <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/somerset\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Somerset<\/a>, has credited her wealth to side hustles, trading investments, saving in ISA accounts, and teaching herself<a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/03\/27\/much-save-per-year-based-salary-according-accountant-27704449\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/03\/27\/much-save-per-year-based-salary-according-accountant-27704449\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> to stick to a strict budget.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Instead of going to university, Gabriella began a degree apprenticeship in management consulting aged 18, earning around \u00a31,400 a month.<\/p>\n<p>However she immediately began investing, putting 60% of her earnings into a cash ISA \u2014 and then upped her savings game when her salary increased to \u00a31,600 in her second year.<\/p>\n<p>At that point she began investing \u00a31,000 a month, putting \u00a3500 into a cash ISA and \u00a3500 into a Trading 212 stocks and shares ISA.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"652\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/how-i-saved-100-1544510-5332.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28645134\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tGabriella works as a management consultant (Picture: Gabriella Goddard\/SWNS)<\/p>\n<p>She also set up a content creation business managing <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/social-media\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">social media<\/a> accounts for small businesses, as well as carrying out brand deals on her own social media pages, all of which brings her additional income of \u00a35,000 a month. <\/p>\n<p>Now, Gabriella \u2013 who admits she sacrificed a lot of evenings and weekends in her teens to work on her side hustle \u2013 has \u00a370,000 in Trading 212 investments, \u00a323,000 in her workplace <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/pensions-and-investments\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pension<\/a> and a further \u00a313,000 in an emergency fund, giving her a total of \u00a3106,000 stashed away.<\/p>\n<p>She pays \u00a31,000 each month on average into her savings and stocks accounts while living with her parents in Bath, paying them \u00a3200 rent a month.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"546\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/how-i-saved-100-1544511-5be4.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28645136\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tGabriella chose an apprenticeship over university despite excellent exam results (Picture: Gabriella Goddard\/SWNS)<\/p>\n<p>Gabriella explained: \u2018I learned about investing through social media \u2013 I was bored during <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/coronavirus\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Covid<\/a>, so I started doing some research. I asked for books on investing for my birthday and <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/christmas\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Christmas<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018At first, I was putting \u00a3500 into my savings and \u00a3500 into my investment account, then I got a little bit excited by it, and started investing way more.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I wouldn\u2019t recommend that, but because I was living at home, and had an emergency fund. Using that as a three-month emergency fund, she then upped the amount she was putting into her stocks and shares account to \u00a31,000 a month.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"806\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/how-i-saved-100-1545618-e752.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28645139\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tShe makes over \u00a35K a month from a side hustle (Picture: Gabriella Goddard\/SWNS)<\/p>\n<p>In her final year, her salary rose to \u00a335,000 a year \u2013 around \u00a32,100 a month \u2013 which was when she began her side hustle, managing <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/instagram\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram<\/a> accounts for two small businesses, until she was forced to take a step back for her own wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It was basically another full time job,\u2019 she explained. \u2018I was working all the time. It wasn\u2019t healthy.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Instead she now focuses on her own social media and makes around \u00a35,000 a month from brand deals on TikTok. <\/p>\n<p>While her rent and other expenses have increased to \u00a3500 and \u00a3900 respectively she is still saving a significant amount each month.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"738\" get on the property ladder but she has no plans to at the moment as the housing market \u2018isn\u2019t as profitable as it used to be\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I don\u2019t want to completely wipe out my investments and savings for a house I probably couldn\u2019t even afford furniture for,\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n<p>She is also encouraging others her age to give investing a go by putting in a little bit of disposable income every month \u2014 and is keen to stress that she\u2019s made her money through her own hard work.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This money definitely wasn\u2019t handed to me,\u2019 she said. \u2018A lot of people assume I\u2019m just a posh girl from Bath whose had everything given to her, but there\u2019s been a lot of hard work and
