{"id":101221,"date":"2025-05-14T16:23:19","date_gmt":"2025-05-14T16:23:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/101221\/"},"modified":"2025-05-14T16:23:19","modified_gmt":"2025-05-14T16:23:19","slug":"advertising-accounts-for-4-of-uks-gross-value-added-and-5-of-employment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/101221\/","title":{"rendered":"Advertising accounts for 4% of UK\u2019s gross value added and 5% of employment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ad industry is contributing a \u201crecord amount\u201d to the UK economy when measured by ad investment, gross value added (GVA) to the economy and employment.<\/p>\n<p>That is the key finding in a new report from Credos, the think-tank from the Advertising Association\u2019s (AA), which found the ad industry currently supports over 1.7m jobs across the UK \u2014 equivalent to 5% of total national employment.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, 60% of advertising and marketing jobs were found to be based outside London. The north-west is the largest hub outside the capital (12%), followed by the south east (11%) and Yorkshire and Humber (8%).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-308390\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/AdPays2025PressImage039.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"734\" height=\"413\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The report,\u00a0Advertising Pays 2025, was unveiled at LEAD North on Wednesday in Manchester. It found that, last year, 3.5m businesses spent an estimated \u00a366.6bn on advertising, comprising \u00a342.6bn on media, \u00a37.4bn on agencies and production, and \u00a316.6bn on marketing professionals.<\/p>\n<p>On average, the study concludes, \u00a31 spent on advertising generates a profit return on investment of \u00a34.11 for medium and large-sized businesses and \u00a31.89 for micro and small businesses.<\/p>\n<p>For the wider UK economy, advertising contributed \u00a3109bn of GVA last year \u2014 equivalent to 4% of the total economy. This includes \u00a317.9bn worth of ad services that were exported in 2024 \u2014 second in the world only to the US.<\/p>\n<p>The GVA contribution consists of \u00a331.6bn via the return on investment generated by advertisers from their campaigns, \u00a346.3bn generated directly by the ad industry, \u00a324.7bn from advertising\u2019s supply chains and \u00a36.2bn from the ad-supported media and digital industries.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-308389\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/AdPays2025PressImage059-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"734\" height=\"413\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The UK has particularly seen growth in ecommerce and influencer marketing, according to Credos. The UK\u2019s share of ecommerce in retail sales of goods (30%) is currently the highest in the world, ahead of the US (24%).
