{"id":1013117,"date":"2026-06-08T11:57:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T11:57:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1013117\/"},"modified":"2026-06-08T11:57:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-08T11:57:15","slug":"university-of-manchester-colleagues-visit-japan-to-sign-mou-with-tokyo-university-of-the-arts-and-national-center-for-art-research-japan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1013117\/","title":{"rendered":"University of Manchester colleagues visit Japan to sign MoU with Tokyo University of the Arts and National Center for Art Research, Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin-left:0cm;text-align:start;\">We\u2019re delighted to announce that we\u2019ve signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tokyo University of the Arts and The National Center for Art Research, Japan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm;text-align:start;\">On Saturday, 23 May 2026 at The National Art Center, Tokyo (NACT), Japan, Prof John McAuliffe, Associate Vice President (Cultural Portfolio), signed a Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of Creative Manchester, at The University of Manchester.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm;text-align:start;\">This landmark\u00a0agreement commits the University to collaborate in a\u00a0three-way partnership with the \u201cArts-Based Communication Platform for Co-creation to Build a Convivial Society&#8221; at Tokyo University of the Arts (TUA) \u2014 commonly known as the ART-based Platform for Co-creation \u2014 and the National Center for Art Research (NCAR), part of the National Museum of Art, Japan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm;text-align:start;\">As part of this MoU, the three partners (UoM, the ART-based Platform for Co-creation, and NCAR), will work collaboratively with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) GM Place Partnership, to strengthen international research collaborations<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm;text-align:start;\">The formal signing ceremony took place following the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ncar.artmuseums.go.jp\/en\/events\/d_and_i\/wellbeing\/post2026-3154.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NCAR Co-Creation Forum Vol.2: Enhancing Wellbeing with Museums \u2015Place-Based Co-Creation in the UK and Japan.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm;text-align:start;\">Prof John McAuliffe, Associate Vice President (Cultural Portfolio), Prof Sook-Kyung Lee, Director of The Whitworth, Dr Hannah Waterson, Research Associate \u2013 Knowledge Mobilisation and Julie McCarthy, Strategic Lead for Creative Health at the GMCA presented as part of the event exploring Creative Health initiatives from Manchester.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm;text-align:start;\">The event drew 150 guests to The National Art Center, Tokyo, and\u00a0\u00a0over 700 registered for the online event. The afternoon focused on knowledge exchange around Creative Health and Social Prescribing, along with discussion around\u00a0future collaboration and shared research opportunities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0cm;text-align:start;\">Colleagues were also invited to speak at the Kyoto University International Social Prescribing Conference (ISPC 2026), alongside academics from TUA and NCAR. The conference brought together people from across the world interested in social prescribing and non-medical approaches to health and wellbeing. The University of Manchester and GMCA,\u00a0joined Tokyo University of the Arts and NCAR for a joint session at the conference,\u00a0exploring differences and similarities in the UK and Japan.
