Taking to TikTok<\/a>, the @CoinCollectingWizard shared the exciting news with his 269,000 followers, urging them to look out for the Atlantic Salmon 50p.<\/p>\n

He said: “With only 200,000 of these, this is an exciting day for coin collecting. It takes the crown from the all-mighty Kew Gardens 50p coin which held the title for the past 15 years.”<\/p>\n

He added: “Launched at the tail end of 2023, the Atlantic Salmon 50p was released as part of the national celebrations for King Charles III’s Coronation year.<\/p>\n

“This coin has now officially dethroned the Kew Gardens 50p, which had a mintage of 210,000 when it first came out in 2009.”<\/p>\n

The specialist also noted that demand for the Atlantic Salmon 50p is soaring. He added: “The coin has already started to gain attraction on eBay and other coin groups.<\/p>\n

“And the price is skyrocketing, so keep an eye out for the new rarest 50p you can find in your change.”<\/p>\n

Scores of enthusiastic readers rushed to the comments section to express their delight. One wrote: “Really excited, can’t control myself here.” Another added: “My daughter has two of these,” to which the poster replied: “Excellent, keep them safe.”<\/p>\n

Why is the Atlantic Salmon 50p so special?<\/p>\n

The 2023 King Charles III Atlantic Salmon is the rarest 50p in active circulation. There’s just 200,000 of these out in the hands of the public, dethroning the legendary Kew Gardens 50p.<\/p>\n

A circulated version will typically fetch anywhere between \u00a350 to \u00a380. The coin holds further significance as it represents the first major change in definitive UK coinage following the transition of monarch.<\/p>\n

It bears a portrait of King Charles III, crafted by Martin Jennings. The reverse side pays tribute to the endangered Atlantic salmon, reflecting His Majesty’s well-documented passion for environmental causes.<\/p>\n
