Per Mertesacker<\/a><\/strong> has put his newly built luxury villa in Hannover<\/strong> up for auction through Sotheby\u2019s<\/strong>, bringing an end to plans of returning to Germany with his family in the immediate future.<\/p>\n

The move seems to confirm the former Arsenal<\/strong> captain\u2019s long-term commitment to life in London<\/strong>, where he continues to head the Arsenal Academy<\/strong>, a role he has held since 2018.<\/p>\n

The property, a sprawling 875-square-metre villa in D\u00f6hren<\/strong>, had been constructed with the intention of housing Mertesacker<\/strong>, his wife and their five children upon his eventual return from London. Designed with a family of seven in mind, the house includes 18 rooms across multiple floors, six garages with a car lift, a private lift within the home, and panoramic views over the Leinemasch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It also allows for \u2018multi-generational living\u2019, with three self-contained sections, including a 207-square-metre apartment, a 308-square-metre penthouse, and a larger 362-square-metre main residence.<\/p>\n

The villa has become the first German property to be listed for global auction via Concierge Auctions<\/strong>, Sotheby\u2019s luxury property platform<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bidding has opened online, with a live auction to follow in London<\/strong> on 29 May. The current guide price is \u20ac8.5 million, but the family retains the right to withdraw the property if the opening bid is deemed too low.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are the hidden gem,\u201d said<\/a> Timo Mertesacker<\/strong>, Per\u2019s brother, who oversaw the villa\u2019s construction. \u201cPer wanted to live here with his wife and five children. That\u2019s why it\u2019s designed so generously.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, though, the focus has shifted back to London. According to Timo, the decision to stay is driven by both professional and personal reasons. \u201cHe wants to stay in London longer. Also, the eldest wants to finish his A-levels there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Timo, who serves as CEO of the Mertesacker Family Office<\/a><\/strong> and chairs the Per Mertesacker Foundation<\/strong><\/a>, manages the family\u2019s financial and charitable affairs.<\/p>\n

Mertesacker\u2019s role at Arsenal, leading the club\u2019s youth development, has grown in stature.
