{"id":101676,"date":"2025-05-14T20:17:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-14T20:17:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/101676\/"},"modified":"2025-05-14T20:17:10","modified_gmt":"2025-05-14T20:17:10","slug":"fifa-chief-insists-united-kingdom-must-host-world-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/101676\/","title":{"rendered":"FIFA chief insists United Kingdom must host World Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Britain has been urged to bid for the men&#8217;s World Cup by one of football&#8217;s most powerful figures, who believes it is time the biggest football competition should be hosted on these shores again.<\/p>\n<p>Victor Montagliani, a FIFA vice-president who runs football in North and Central America and the Caribbean, believes &#8220;it&#8217;s time&#8221; for the tournament to return to British soil.<\/p>\n<p>The UK is already set to host the 2035 women&#8217;s World Cup, which could serve as a springboard for a men&#8217;s tournament bid in either 2038 or 2042.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to The Times in Asuncion, Montagliani said: &#8220;I can&#8217;t see why, not just England but the United Kingdom shouldn&#8217;t be hosting the World Cup. I think it would be a fantastic World Cup and I think they should seriously think of putting their foot forward to host.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"bc3c4\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"5a3b4c8d76a8c102eccf3299b6b997ce\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201200%20712'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/victor-montagliani.jpg\" width=\"1200\" height=\"712\" alt=\"Victor Montagliani\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Victor Montagliani has insisted the World Cup should return to the United Kingdom<\/p>\n<p>PA<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We all know what the game means in the UK and I think it&#8217;s time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Montagliani endorsed FIFA&#8217;s new approach to awarding tournaments without competitive bidding processes.<\/p>\n<p>He specifically praised the method used to award the 2030 World Cup to Spain, Portugal and Morocco, and the 2034 tournament to Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I support what we have done in recent history, I think it&#8217;s the only way,&#8221; he stated firmly.<\/p>\n<p>He believes the current expansion to 48 teams, set to debut in 2026, strikes the right balance.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It still needs to be difficult to get to a World Cup,&#8221;
