FC Barcelona has decided to bid “ad\u00e9u” or “adios” to Marcus Rashford<\/a> by not exercising the Manchester United-owned winger\u2019s buy option, according to MARCA<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rashford joined the Catalans on a loan deal for the 2025\/2026 season, which finished with the Englishman becoming a national league champion for the first time.<\/p>\n

Despite his 14 goals and 14 assists which contributed to Bar\u00e7a scooping a La Liga and Spanish Super Cup double, however, it has decided not to exercise Rashford\u2019s $35 million (\u20ac30 million) buy option.<\/p>\n

Anthony Gordon\u2019s arrival<\/a> at the Spotify Camp Nou has had a lot do with this. Bar\u00e7a shocked the football world a fortnight ago, by coming out of nowhere and wrapping up a $80.85 million (\u20ac70 million) deal for the now-former Newcastle United forward.<\/p>\n

As the two wingers share the same position, and will fight for it at the World Cup for England, Rashford is surplus to requirements considering star player Raphinha<\/a> also operates on the left.<\/p>\n

Could there have been space for both Rashford and Gordon at FC Barcelona?<\/p>\n

When Gordon landed in the Catalan capital, we immediately saw reports of Rashford\u2019s camp not being concerned<\/a> about the competition. <\/p>\n

Rashford\u2019s entourage claimed to know about the landmark transfer, and the Mancunian is capable of playing a number of positions across the attacking line.<\/p>\n

Despite a considerably lower transfer fee, however, Rashford\u2019s salary demands are far higher. There\u2019s an argument to be made for Gordon actually costing much less in the long-run, and Rashford looks set to become Manchester United\u2019s problem again this summer following the World Cup.<\/p>\n

An impressive campaign with the Three Lions could see Rashford put in the shop window again, but it also can\u2019t be ruled out that Deco and Co. might make an offer to take him on loan once more after the June 30 expiration of his current temporary assignment in Catalonia.<\/p>\n

Because of his versatility, Rashford might still be worth a punt. Raphinha and Lamine Yamal have both had injuries as of late, and Rashford\u2019s fantastic assist for Robert Lewandowski from the right channel against Osasuna shows that he\u2019s an option there too.<\/p>\n

That goes without mentioning the center-forward role. FC Barcelona are currently trying to land Julian Alvarez to inherit the number 9 shirt Lewandowski will leave vacant after departing on the mentioned date.
