AP<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know what level Phil is competing at,\u201d the six-time Masters champion said. \u201cI guess he\u2019s still playing. He\u2019s playing the LIV tour, is he? I don\u2019t know if he\u2019s playing or not. Michael Madrid-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey made their choice to play on their own tour, and that\u2019s where they are right now,\u201d Player said. \u201cI don\u2019t see a real working mechanism for the two tours [PGA Tour and LIV] to get back together.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two-time champion Bernhard Langer, at age 67 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/07\/sports\/emotional-bernhard-langer-bracing-for-final-masters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">and playing in his 41st and final Masters<\/a>, shot a 2-over-par 73.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOverall, it was a pretty good round for a 67-year-old to get around here at 2-over with the clubs I\u2019m hitting into, sometimes 3-woods into par-4s and 2 hybrids and 3 hybrids,\u201d Langer said. \u201cIf I want to make the cut, I\u2019ve got to do much better tomorrow, or some better.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>By 11 shots, the worst round of the day came from Nick Dunlap, already a two-time PGA Tour winner at the age of 21. <\/p>\n<p>He shot an 18-over 90 in the first round.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Incredibly, Dunlap\u2019s score \u2014 43 on the front nine and 47 on the back \u2014 wasn\u2019t the highest in Masters history. <\/p>\n<p>Nick Dunlap struggled through a brutal first round of the Masters.  Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>That belongs to Charles Kunkle Jr., who shot a final-round 95 in 1956. <\/p>\n<p>Billy Casper shot a 105 at the 2005 Masters at age 70, but didn\u2019t sign his scorecard so the round wasn\u2019t official.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dunlap, who missed the cut in his Masters debut last year (77-72), entered this week struggling, having missed his past three cuts and shooting a pair of 80s, one at Bay Hill and another at the Players.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cam Smith turned some heads in his Wednesday practice round, playing in a blue blazer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFunny story,\u201d he said Thursday. \u201cI met the Grayson [clothing company] guy at teams week this week and we had a couple of beers \u2014 maybe even a couple too many beers \u2014 and we got to talking about fashion. He said, \u2018It would be great if you wore a blazer at the Masters. I think it\u2019s the place to do it.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I agreed to it. I\u2019m a man of my word, so I did it. It was a bit chilly, so it kind of worked out. I wouldn\u2019t say I\u2019m a fashion guru by any standard, but I felt good in it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Fellow Aussie Jason Day, who\u2019s drawn a lot of attention for wearing Malbon Golf\u2019s garish wear, said he thought Smith \u201clooked great.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf he rocks it, then I\u2019m happy for him.
