\n\tDavid Harbour<\/a> says that a media report saying his Stranger Things<\/a> co-star Millie Bobby Brown had filed a bullying and harassment claim partly triggered a mental health episode. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe 51-year-old actor is opening up about last year\u2019s viral U.K. Daily Mail tabloid story that alleged Brown had filed \u201cpages and pages\u201d of claims against him before production started on the Netflix hit\u2019s final season.<\/p>\n

\n\tPortraying the story as false, Harbour told Variety<\/a>, \u201cI had a breakdown,\u201d then added a laugh. He called the story\u2019s timing \u2014 coming a week after his ex Lily Allen released her album, West End Girl, which was critical of the actor \u2014 \u201cweird.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c[Brown and I] worked together for 10 years during her formative teenage years, playing father and daughter,\u201d said Harbour, who has been open about having bipolar disorder. \u201cI don\u2019t know if people have families and friends that you spend a lot of time with for 10 years \u2014 you occasionally get in arguments, disagreements \u2026 In families, it\u2019s OK because you\u2019re just in a disagreement, and then you come back together. The problem with a billion-dollar show is that there\u2019s just hundreds of people who want to get involved.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThat said, Harbour suggested he sometimes behaved in \u201cembarrassing\u201d ways on the Stranger Things set. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI do suffer from some confusing stuff \u2014 it\u2019s confusing as hell,\u201d Harbour added. \u201cI think a lot of people have a friend or a brother or a co-worker that deals with mental health stuff, and they\u2019re probably pretty confused when that person gets depressed or gets manic or has an episode.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cUnder times of extreme stress, that can cause somewhat erratic behavior, and it\u2019s embarrassing, and I\u2019m ashamed of it,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s not something I choose, and I wouldn\u2019t wish it on my worst enemy. I do feel like, for some of us, our gifts are inextricably linked with our illnesses. To have a nervous system that reacts to the world in a too-delicate way can allow me to have that moment that I love [in DTF St. Louis] on the swings with Jason. But it can also force me, in moments of extreme stress, to act a little weird.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs for his current relationship with Brown, Harbour said, \u201cMillie and I are working on several [projects] \u2026 You\u2019ll see more of me and Millie \u2014 10 years wasn\u2019t enough. There is a special bond there. I love her. She loves me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBrown likewise released a statement expressing positivity about their relationship while acknowledging some emotional times on set: \u201cOver time, our relationship became much more collaborative creatively. When you work with someone for that many years, we could really push each other emotionally in scenes. Even though the series has ended, there\u2019s still a lot of gratitude. Getting to share that experience with him for so many years is something I\u2019ll always remember and value.\u201d <\/p>\n
