new research by the <a href=\"https:\/\/corporateeurope.org\/en\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/corporateeurope.org\/en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Corporate Europe Observatory<\/a> (CEO).<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/corporateeurope.org\/en\/2026\/06\/eu-corporate-lobby-league-2026\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/corporateeurope.org\/en\/2026\/06\/eu-corporate-lobby-league-2026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a> released on Thursday (11 June), CEO, a pro-transparency NGO, revealed annual spending of \u20ac381.75m for lobbying European institutions, marking a 50 percent increase since 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Their research alongside that by fellow non-profit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lobbycontrol.de\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.lobbycontrol.de\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lobby Control<\/a> found that the number of industry organisations with a lobby budget of at least \u20ac1m has grown by almost 30 percent since 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The campaigners stress that increased spending has translated into a significant number of industry-friendly policies. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are witnessing corporate lobbyists with bold and increasing powers to influence policy,\u201d the report states.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Alongside banks <a href=\"https:\/\/euobserver.com\/198247\/forever-chemical-firms-continue-forever-eu-lobbying\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/euobserver.com\/198247\/forever-chemical-firms-continue-forever-eu-lobbying\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">and chemical companies<\/a>, the most significant lobbying groups are in the <a href=\"https:\/\/euobserver.com\/216920\/eu-rush-to-fix-energy-crisis-risks-stripping-citizens-and-nature-of-legal-protections\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/euobserver.com\/216920\/eu-rush-to-fix-energy-crisis-risks-stripping-citizens-and-nature-of-legal-protections\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">energy and fossil fuel industry<\/a>, tallying \u20ac52m in spending per year on lobbying, and tech groups which spent \u20ac73m annually.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Campaigners warn that this spending power is accompanied by what they describe as a deregulatory wave led by EU commission president Ursula von Der Leyen and the right-wing-dominated European Parliament, \u201cslashing hard-won rules that exist to protect social and
