Solihull police ban prolific offender from these five areas<\/a> <\/b><\/p>\nHe was taken to hospital with injuries so serious they were initially considered life-threatening. The force’s Major Crime Unit (MCU) began immediate inquiries, speaking to witnesses and residents in the area.<\/p>\n
Officers also reviewed CCTV in a bid to track down the person responsible.<\/p>\n
Detectives identified Mahamad as a suspect and he was arrested less than 24 hours after the attack took place.<\/p>\n
Officers were able to establish it was an attempted robbery after the victim was knifed in the early hours of July 26 last year.<\/p>\n
Mahamad, from Browns Green, Handsworth, was charged with attempted murder, attempted robbery, and possession of a knife.<\/p>\n
In January he was found guilty of wounding, attempted robbery, and possession of a bladed article. On Monday, June 8,, Mahamad was jailed for 17 years in total.<\/p>\n
Speaking after the case, Det Sgt Jeanette Roberts, from MCU, said: \u201cThroughout the investigation, our thoughts have remained with the man who was hurt \u2013 as he continues to recover from his very serious injuries.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no doubt that due to the callous and sustained attack at the hands of Mahamad, he could well have lost his life.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know people who were there helped bring the assault to an end \u2013 and they should be commended for this, as without their intervention the circumstances could again have been even worse.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur team worked hard and at pace to identify the attacker and get him before the courts, and we welcome the prison sentence handed down to him.<\/p>\n
