Stranger Things<\/a> star David Harbour<\/a> has broken his silence on his ex Lily Allen\u2019s 2025 album West End Girl<\/a>.<\/p>\n Harbour, 51, has kept mum since the British singer and actor, 41, released the record<\/a> \u2014 her first in seven years \u2014 after the 2024 breakdown of their five-year marriage<\/a>.<\/p>\n Speaking about the album in a new interview with Variety <\/a>, Harbor said: \u201cIt was weird.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n \u201cI can\u2019t really say that much more because it\u2019s my private life. In spite of the fact that a lot of people don\u2019t allow me a private life \u2014 I value it. And I also value the lives of the people that I interact with privately. I just won\u2019t speak about that.\u201d<\/p>\n When asked if he wanted to respond to any of the claims made on the album, Harbour said: \u201cStories are complex and that\u2019s why I say I respect her creation of art to channel her experience. It wasn\u2019t my experience.\u201d<\/p>\n Upon its release in October, the album was described by Allen as \u201ca mixture of fact and fiction which I hope serves as a reminder of how stoic yet also how frail we humans can be.\u201d<\/p>\n The album covers many themes, including cheating, gaslighting, open relationships<\/a> and sex addiction.<\/p>\n In a five-star review<\/a>, The Independent\u2019s Hannah Ewens wrote: \u201cIt\u2019s not just confessional pop, it\u2019s obliterative; an emotional post-mortem carried out in public, a death-by-a-million-cuts account of a thoroughly modern marriage breakdown.\u201d<\/p>\n Harbour and Allen married in 2019 after meeting on the dating app Raya, <\/a>an exclusive dating app popular among celebrities and other high-profile figures. <\/p>\n Following their split, Allen decided to enter a treatment facility<\/a> at the start of 2025, telling British Vogue<\/a> in October 2025: \u201cThe feelings of despair that I was experiencing were so strong,\u201d she told the outlet, adding that it was the closest she had come to relapsing after six years of sobriety.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been into those places before against my will, and I feel like that\u2019s progress in itself,\u201d Allen continued. \u201cThat\u2019s strength. I knew that the things I was feeling were too extreme to be able to manage, and I was like, \u2018I need some time away.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Harbour, meanwhile, admitted in the new Variety interview to suffering a nervous breakdown this past December, forcing him to miss celebrations around the final season of Stranger Things.<\/p>\n \u201cI do suffer from some confusing stuff \u2014 it\u2019s confusing as hell,\u201d he told the outlet. \u201cI think a lot of people have a friend or a brother or a co-worker that deals with mental health stuff, and they\u2019re probably pretty confused when that person gets depressed or gets manic or has an episode.\u201d <\/p>\n He continued: \u201cUnder times of extreme stress, that can cause somewhat erratic behavior, and it\u2019s embarrassing, and I\u2019m ashamed of it.
