\n\tA little over two decades ago, Scarlett Johansson<\/a> had a difficult time connecting with Bill Murray<\/a> on the set of 2003\u2019s Lost in Translation. In a new Vanity Fair<\/a> interview, she says, \u201cHe\u2019s such a different person now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the film, Johansson\u2019s character, a lonely young woman, bonds with a pensive movie star played by Bill Murray in Tokyo. In the interview published Wednesday, Johansson tells Vanity Fair the bond was \u2026 acting. \u201cBill was in a hard place,\u201d she says. \u201cEverybody was on tenterhooks around him, including our director and the full crew, because he was dealing with his \u2026 stuff.\u201d While she doesn\u2019t explain what Murray was going through at the time, she instead refers to a \u201cheadspace\u201d he was in without going into further detail.<\/p>\n

\n\tShe goes on to share that they reconnected recently at Saturday Night Live\u2019s 50th anniversary special<\/a>, where he seemed gentler to her. \u201cI think life has humbled him,\u201d she says. When Vanity Fair presses her as to whether or not she was referring to 2022 accusations of misbehavior<\/a> during the making of a movie called Being Mortal, she says yes. At the time, Searchlight Pictures halted production when Murray, wearing a mask to prevent the spread of Covid, kissed a masked female crew member as a joke, ostensibly without her consent.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThat was really bad,\u201d Johansson says. \u201cBut I also know Covid was a hard thing for him. Life \u2014 all these things have led up to him being held accountable for that kind of behavior.\u2026 But you know what? How wonderful that people can change.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMurray discussed the allegations in a New York Times<\/a> interview last month. \u201cI dunno what prompted me to do it,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s something that I had done to someone else before, and I thought it was funny, and every time it happened, it was funny. I was wearing a mask, and I gave her a kiss, and she was wearing a mask. It wasn\u2019t like I touched her, but it was just, I gave her a kiss through a mask. And she wasn\u2019t a stranger.\u201d<\/p>\n
