Inter Milan<\/a> have begun internal discussions over a possible loan move for Manchester United<\/a> forward Joshua Zirkzee<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Zirkzee arrived at Old Trafford with weighty expectations on his shoulders<\/a> following a high-profile \u00a336.5million switch from Bologna last summer.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old was considered one of the most promising young attackers in Italian football, but has flattered to deceive across a largely underwhelming \u2013 albeit injury-hit \u2013 debut season with United.<\/p>\n

Juventus expressed a strong interest over proposed deal in the winter,<\/a> but Ruben Amorim made it clear he wanted to keep hold of Zirkzee for the second half of the campaign and the Dutchman stayed put.<\/p>\n

But Zirkzee failed to score a single league goal between the January transfer deadline and his injury blow last month \u2013 and there is a growing acceptance within United\u2019s hierarchy that the move has not worked.<\/p>\n

According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport<\/a>, Champions League finalists Inter are on the hunt for an alternative to Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram \u2013 and their \u2018sights are set\u2019 on Zirkzee.<\/p>\n

The Serie A giants have made signing a forward their \u2018absolute priority\u2019 for the summer and with this in mind, they have \u2018opened a file\u2019 over a possible temporary deal for the United man.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s claimed \u2018there is room for negotiation\u2019 with United given Zirkzee\u2019s obvious struggles over the course of the season and Inter\u2019s idea is to propose a loan agreement with an option to buy which, under certain conditions, could become an obligation.<\/p>\n

Inter are confident the Netherlands international can rediscover the \u2018technical quality, creativity and physicality\u2019 that he showed during his previous stint in Italy with Bologna.<\/p>\n

The report suggests Zirkzee will be desperate to \u2018relaunch himself\u2019 and the prospect of joining the potential European champions may be too good an opportunity to turn down for the Dutchman, especially if United miss out on Champions League qualification.<\/p>\n

Napoli\u2019s Giacomo Raspadori and Parma\u2019s Ange-Yoan Bonny are also on Inter\u2019s shortlist of targets for their attack.<\/p>\n

Zirkzee\u2019s current contract at the Theatre of Dreams runs through to June 2029.<\/p>\n

Eyebrows were raised as Amorim singled Zirkzee out for criticism after his opening game in charge of the Red Devils against Ipswich<\/a> back in November.<\/p>\n

But before Zirkzee\u2019s season was brought to a premature halt, the United head coach said he was pleased with the goal-shy attacker\u2019s general development.<\/p>\n

\u2018I think he\u2019s improving in a lot of aspects,\u2019 Amorim told reporters.<\/p>\n

\u2018I think he needs to be more selfish, and that is a thing when you play as a striker. He\u2019s not a typical striker, but he has to be more selfish. <\/p>\n

\u2018He\u2019s more aggressive now, he works better now, he\u2019s defending better now, he\u2019s connecting quite well.\u2019<\/p>\n

Amorim added: \u2018He played as a striker in some games, especially against Arsenal he did really, really well. <\/p>\n

\u2018Then in some games, against Real Sociedad, he played as a 10, so he can adapt to different situations. So, I see that Josh is improving and showing good things.\u2019<\/p>\n
