Northern Ireland<\/a> saw a third night of protests on Thursday, but there was no repeat of the disorder that unfolded on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.<\/p>\n

It follows a stabbing incident in north Belfast on Monday night, where a man in his 40s suffered serious injuries to his face, neck and back.<\/a><\/p>\n

Sudanese national Hadi Alodid, a 30-year-old asylum seeker, appeared in court on Wednesday and was remanded in custody charged with attempted murder and possessing a bladed article in public.<\/p>\n

There had previously been around a hundred masked youths on the road, and the police response forced them to retreat into the side streets.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead to the weekend, rallies against the racist attacks and disorder that have broken out in Northern Ireland are to take place in Belfast and Derry.<\/a><\/p>\n

Both demonstrations in the cities are being organised by the local branches of the United Against Racism organisation.<\/p>\n

The rallies are taking place on Saturday, outside City Hall in Belfast at 1pm, and at Derry\u2019s Guildhall Square at 2pm.<\/p>\n

In a statement, a spokesperson for United Against Racism Belfast said the \u201cracist pogroms<\/a>\u201d that had taken place in the city \u201chave left communities terrified\u201d.<\/p>\n

West Belfast People Before Profit MLA Gerry Carrol said of the Belfast rally: \u201cBring your friends, family, colleagues and neighbours. We want the biggest, most unified turnout possible to send one clear message: Belfast won\u2019t tolerate pogroms, and won\u2019t let a tiny minority of racists and the cynical politicians who egg them on speak for our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

A spokesperson behind the Derry rally said the organisation \u201cwill stand with all immigrant communities in the face of such terror\u201d, adding: \u201cWe know the people of Derry will stand with us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRight wing politicians will not be allowed to whip up hatred and then claim to be shocked by the violence they have instigated,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will not allow the scapegoating of immigrants. The people who live here and love here will always be our friends and neighbours.
