According to a new survey, 75 per cent of voters in Wales believe the UK Government should be doing more to help people in poverty.<\/p>\n
The poll, conducted by Big Issue and YouGov, showed higher concern in Wales than in England.<\/p>\n
There, 71 per cent shared this view, despite the consensus in favour of increased action on poverty across Great Britain.<\/p>\n
Dissatisfaction regarding the Labour Government’s approach was also voiced by 68 per cent of Reform UK’s voter base.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the poll revealed significant regional variances in financial security.<\/p>\n
More than half of those surveyed in Wales indicated that, if their income ceased unexpectedly, they would struggle to afford essentials such as housing, food, and utilities within a month.<\/p>\n
This figure is 10 per cent above the British average and 13 per cent greater than Scotland.<\/p>\n
The Big Issue poll was published as its Big Community Roadshow begins a tour of Cardiff.<\/p>\n
The tour aims to spotlight and support those in poverty in South Wales.<\/p>\n
Lord John Bird, co-founder of Big Issue, said: “There must be more done for the 14 million people in poverty in this country.”<\/p>\n
He indicated that the results of the local elections put significant pressure on Labour to prevent its supporters from defecting to rival parties.<\/p>\n
